The Vitamin
Bitterness is a dangerous place to land.
Resentment and bitterness are powerful emotions — they don’t stay on the surface.
They burrow.
They spread.
They consume from the inside out.
When we dwell on hurtful events or painful situations, grudges begin to form.
Hostility takes root.
Negative feelings crowd out positive ones, and before long, bitterness becomes a lens through which we see everything.
Bitterness is serious.
It’s like a brick wall that shuts you off from experiencing God’s grace.
And like weeds, if the root isn’t destroyed, it will spring up somewhere else — in your words, your reactions, your relationships, your thoughts.
Even thinking about the person or situation that hurt you can trigger those same negative emotions all over again.
This is why God calls us to deal with bitterness before it grows.
We confess the hurt, the anger, the disappointment — not because God doesn’t know, but because confession is obedience.
And obedience opens the door for healing.
Only God can uproot bitterness.
Only forgiveness can cure it.
The Heart Check
- Are you covering up bitterness with a smile?
- Are you pretending you’re “over it” while the root is still alive?
- Are you replaying the offense in your mind?
- Are you holding on to something God has been asking you to release?
Allow the Holy Spirit to shine His light deep within you.
Let Him reveal the root — not the symptoms, but the source.
Just as God forgave you, you must forgive others.
There is no other cure.
Holding on to bitterness is like holding a stick of dynamite — eventually, it explodes, and you’re the one who gets hurt.
